Kingspan seeks to implement a market leading strategy by simultaneously developing all facets of its business, from commercial service through to production efficiency. Such a strategy gives graduates from all disciplines a great opportunity to forge a strong career with Kingspan.

I started in Kingspan as a Divisional Project Engineer deployed in Belgium. This role involved a diverse range of engineering tasks – varying from capital expenditure evaluations to technical process applications. Within one year I rose to the position of Engineering Manager where I played a key role in a large project involving the expansion and renewal of existing production lines with the aid of the divisional engineering team whilst also managing day to day preventive and curative maintenance.

I had fulfilled the role of Engineering Manager for approximately 9 months when I was promoted to Production Manager of the panel factory. This role involved human resource management, problem solving, material management and scheduling amongst other tasks. After one and a half years as Production Manager I was offered the role as Operations Manager of the KDC site. This role involves the operational management of the site from Purchasing, Production and Quality to Health and safety, Engineering and Chemicals

Following the acquisition of ThyssenKrupp Construction in September 2012 I was promoted to the role of Operations Director of France and Belgium. I manage four manufacturing sites situated in Dunkirk, Perpignan, Kortrijk and Leuze. I am responsible for multiple management teams regarding all facets of operations management.

As I progressed through my different roles with Kingspan, adequate training was provided to ensure I had the tools to succeed. As part of the Insulated Panels Division I am also able to call upon the abilities, knowledge and vast experience of people within the division.

Kingspan is a company willing to empower those that have the drive to take responsibility and move the company forward. Seeing the passion with which people work at Kingspan has taught me one thing, Kingspan is not just a company, it is a mentality.

I chose to apply to the Kingspan Graduate Program in 2007 as I was looking to develop international marketing experience within a multinational company. I was not disappointed! Having worked across numerous markets, in various roles, I have gained invaluable market knowledge, experienced new management and leadership styles, as well as discovering multicultural environments. Each experience had contributed to my current role as Marketing Manager for France and the Benelux region. Within this role I am responsible for ensuring the development and implementation of consistent marketing communications in each market. Kingspan is continuously evolving with market needs through the development of new products and services. As a marketing professional, this makes it a very exciting company to work for.

Kingspan’s sustainable vision and business model were key factors in my decision to apply for the Graduate Program. With a keen interest in sustainable building design I wanted to work for a global company who are dedicated to providing and developing innovative building solutions whilst also reducing the environmental impact of their business operations.

I joined the Graduate program in September 2013 as a Technical Advisor for Kingspan Insulated Panels Australasia & South East Asia. This role involved a diverse range of technical skills including regulatory advice, project management, building life cycle cost analysis, bespoke façade detail design and on-site inspections. The technical team have involvement from initial concept design stage with the Architect to attending regular site meetings with the Contractor to ensure proper installation and detailing. It gave me a great insight into the different technical design challenges in different markets and a wealth of experience on a broad range of commercial projects.

Kingspan are very supportive of continued professional development and aligning individuals to their area of interest which allowed me to become heavily involved in projects related to sustainability which has led me to my current role as Divisional Sustainability Manager. My responsibilities include providing assistance to local teams across the insulated panel division, helping to developing cost effective energy saving building solutions, providing support to help achieve our group net-zero energy target and providing specific advice on sustainability issues.

Since joining Kingspan I have obtained a wealth of technical, commercial and management skills. I’ve learnt that there are endless opportunities available around the globe to proactive graduates who are looking for an exciting and challenging career.

Mel Courtney General Manager, Kingspan Energy, Ireland

MEng Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Queens University, Belfast

Started with Kingspan in 2005

I joined the Graduate programme in September 2005 as a process engineer in the technical team with Kingspan Environmental in Northern Ireland, where the majority of my contribution was project based. Aside from engineering experience the Graduate Management Development Programme gave me an insight into the commercial and financial aspect of projects and the ability to assess the economic benefit of the project outcome. As a Graduate with Kingspan I have had the opportunity to attend training courses, exhibitions and seminars. In addition to this there is a more structured generic training course for all the graduates that confirm Kingspans desire for our personal and professional development.

In August 2006 I was appointed the role of Site Manager for the manufacturing plant in Portadown. My first 6 months in this new position involved training which the company provided through the Irish Management Institute. In addition to the formal training the divisional support which was made available to me proved very helpful in this new role.

In 2008 I was part of the project team responsible for amalgamating four sites in Ireland into one larger site. I was then promoted to Site Manager of this plant, the largest rotational moulding facility in the UK.

In June 2010 I was given the opportunity to work in the Renewables business unit and I moved into my current role as Operations Director for Kingspan Renewables in GB. I am primarily based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire but am responsible for five manufacturing sites across England. I oversee a management team that is accountable for all operational functions including purchasing, production, quality, H&S, supply chain and R&D. The most interesting part of the role is providing an input to the strategy and investment plan for our business unit.

For self motivated graduates and aspiring managers looking for a company where they will get responsibility and accountability, Kingspan will meet all your expectations. You will be afforded the opportunity to develop your leadership, communication and problem solving skills among an array of experienced members of the Kingspan workforce.

The dynamism of the Environmental and Renewables Division continues to be a motivating factor for me and I look forward to the challenges and opportunities in my future with Kingspan.

BSc Business & Social Science – Vienna University of Business and Economics
MSc International Business – Queen’s University Belfast

Started with Kingspan in 2011

I applied for the Kingspan graduate scheme for three reasons:

It’s a real job

From the very first day I have been involved in a broad variety of projects with a great level of responsibility. I have been finding myself presenting to senior management, contributing in commercial meetings and developing marketing plans. I think the most challenging task is being confident enough to make decisions on behalf of the company - that’s a pretty good challenge to have when you are just starting your career!

Continuous development

Kingspan is such a fast growing business - it allows you to grow with it, every day.
I have been on formal management and marketing training which boosted my development and professional skills. However, what I’m gaining most from is working with great people across the business. It’s a culture where you don’t need to be afraid to ask for support, people enjoy helping you.

A global brand

Kingspan is operating all over the world. I have travelled and lived in many different countries since I started. There is no day like the other. I remember starting the day with a call to Japan, meeting customers in France and finishing with a conference call to the US team.

I can certainly say that I could not have asked for a better start to my career than what I have experienced at Kingspan.

Tony Ryan Divisional Building Technology Manager

BEng Building Service Engineering
BEng (Hons) Sustainable Energy Technology
Cork Institute of Technology

Started with Kingspan in 2011

I joined Kingspan in July 2011 and immediately knew the culture within the organisation and guidance from senior managers and directors was exactly what I wanted.

I started working as a Building Performance Analyst providing Building Energy Modelling and technical guidance on the installation of our products to stakeholders. I also developed our Building Information Modelling (BIM) capabilities in 2012. Today I predominately work on projects relating to sustainability, public affairs, new product launches and Kingspan's initiative to become Net Zero Energy by 2020. I also support our sales and business development teams across the division. In 2014 I was elected to the board of the European Alliance of Companies for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (EuroACE) providing me with an opportunity to help steer the organisation to increase awareness about the urgent need for energy efficiency in buildings.

Kingspan's fast paced and dynamic ethos will provide graduates with invaluable experience in a truly successful global Irish company. The passion, motivation and helpfulness of employees along with the culture and pride within Kingspan is guaranteed to give any graduate an unforgettable start to their career.
